Nestled within the tranquil Cuyahoga Valley National Park, two orphaned wells, drilled in 1947 and 1954 and decades before the area’s designation, posed looming environmental concerns. One well was situated near the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, while the other bordered the park’s forested areas. Despite their age, the wells remained in fairly good condition. However, the National Park Service (NPS) recognized the potential environmental threat they posed and sought to address the issue before any leakage occurred, necessitating an efficient solution.
Plants & Goodwin, subcontracted by Northwind Site Services, promptly mobilized to tackle the task. Utilizing Rig #11, a Dickirson SR-60 Double Pole Service Rig, Plants & Goodwin executed the plugging process with precision and care. Their expertise ensured that the wells were securely plugged, mitigating any imminent environmental risks. The NPS’s proactive approach streamlined the project, emphasizing the value of environmental stewardship. Plants & Goodwin’s prompt action further demonstrated their dedication to preserving Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s integrity.
